Johannesburg (September 15, 2010) - The Clean Energy Company - along with eight
other clean energy and greenhouse gas emissions
reducing projects across Africa - were presented to investors
in Johannesburg at the CTI PFAN
AFRICA FORUM for CLEAN ENERGY FINANCING (AFRICEF).
“This is the first African Clean Energy Investor Forum. Increasing the market for clean energy is a critical component to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Africa while contributing to sustainable development. We’re proud to be supporting CTI PFAN’s efforts to get innovative projects from Africa’s entrepreneurs off the ground,” said Elmer Holt (Chairman of the CTI Executive Committee)
CTI PFAN is a multilateral, public-private partnership initiated by CTI in cooperation with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change’s Expert Group on Technology Transfer. CTI PFAN is managed in Africa by PPL International.
Winner: Best Entrepreneurs in the Nature Challenge - Boosting businesses on sustainable use of natural resources in Mozambique & Kenya.

The challenge was aimed at Small and Medium sized Entrepreneurs (SMEs) or producer organizations with a high-growth and/or innovative business plan that generates economic benefits in a way that supports conservation & biodiversity.
Winner: Access to Clean Energy Challenge 2010.

The Clean Energy Company was one of five clean energy entrepreneurial stat-up companies from East Africa presented to African Leaders at the World Economic Forum, on 5 May, in Dar-es-Salaam.
The East African Clean Energy Challenge - is a competition organised by a Dutch non-profit called BiD Network and supported by Barclays Bank, UK businessman Sir Ronald Greirson, E+Co and GVEP International. The competition ran from October 2009 till 15 January 2010, attracted 150 applications.
Thierry Sanders, founder of Bid Network described the winners: 'These energy entrepreneurs show that African Leaders need not look abroad for solutions. These are home-grown businesses created by and for the people of East Africa. These entrepreneurs not only provide access to energy, they also create jobs, and generate wealth.'
GVEP International (Global Village Energy Partnership) is an international non-profit organisation seeking to reduce poverty through accelerated access to modern energy services. Their teams operate through regional hubs in Africa and Latin America, supporting the creation of micro, small and medium size energy enterprises. The end aim is the provision by local entrepreneurs of modern energy products and services at affordable prices, and the development of local economies in a sustainable way.
2009 SEED Awards for Entrepreneurship in Sustainable Development

The Clean Energy Initiative is the proud winner of the 2009 SEED Awards for Entrepreneurship in Sustainable Development announced at the UNCSD in New York in May 2009. The international awards is a flagship programme of the SEED Initiative, a partnership founded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The Clean Energy Initiative was selected from over 1100 applicants from close to 100 countries worldwide.
The SEED Awards are distinctive in the field of environmental and development awards in that they identify, profile and support promising, locally driven, start-up enterprises working in partnership in developing countries to improve livelihoods, tackle poverty and manage natural resources sustainable. SEED is global network founded in 2002 to contribute towards the goals of the UN's Millennium Declaration and the commitments made at the Johannesburg World Summit on sustainable Development.
Pemba Open 2009’ Kite-surfing Competition

In August 2009 The Clean Energy Company sponsored the ‘Pemba Open 2009’ kite-surfing competition in Murrebue.
A 350-watt Pemba-fabricated turbine provided power for the lighting and PA sound system for the event attended by the Governor of Cabo Delgado. The event attached over 2,300 spectators over 4 days. Potential customers and decision-makers were given presentations of the working turbine.
